HM Government Domestic Abuse Consultation http://www.sosdap.org/2018/03/12/hm-government-domestic-abuse-consultation/ Mon, 12 Mar 2018 11:36:21 +0000 http://www.sosdap.org/?p=564 Last week, on International Women’s Day (8th March), the Government launched a consultation to establish how it can best tackle domestic abuse in the UK by:
– promoting awareness – making sure everyone understands what domestic abuse is and how to tackle it
– protecting and supporting victims – to improve the safety of victims and the support available
– pursuing and deterring perpetrators – holding them responsible for their actions and making sure the response from the police and the justice system is effective
– improving performance – encouraging all services and organisations working with domestic abuse victims or perpetrators to do so in the best way possible

This is a really good opportunity to inform the UK Government of the experiences of survivors and other organisations involved in supporting victims – and perpetrators – of abuse, and to impact on future government strategy. To participate in the consultation, please click here (for the long version) or here (for the short version).

Pants! http://www.sosdap.org/2018/03/06/pants/ Tue, 06 Mar 2018 12:05:57 +0000 http://www.sosdap.org/?p=558 Marks and Spencer’s Southend popped into our office today laden with donations of brand new underwear for the women we support.

We often have women dropping into our Dove Centre who are fleeing domestic abuse, or who are living in financially controlling relationships. To be able to provide these women with a brand new bra or new sets of knickers in her size really makes a difference at a challenging and overwhelming time in their lives.

On behalf of everyone here at SOSDAP – thank you Marks and Spencer!
