Last week, on International Women’s Day (8th March), the Government launched a consultation to establish how it can best tackle domestic abuse in the UK by:
– promoting awareness – making sure everyone understands what domestic abuse is and how to tackle it
– protecting and supporting victims – to improve the safety of victims and the support available
– pursuing and deterring perpetrators – holding them responsible for their actions and making sure the response from the police and the justice system is effective
– improving performance – encouraging all services and organisations working with domestic abuse victims or perpetrators to do so in the best way possible
This is a really good opportunity to inform the UK Government of the experiences of survivors and other organisations involved in supporting victims – and perpetrators – of abuse, and to impact on future government strategy.
